Archaeology

Thinking about the future in a world of rapid climate change and coupling it to our enduring legacy of nuclear waste has converged with an existing fascination with archaeological investigation. I have participated in several archaeological digs in Anglesey and have allowed myself to invent future archaeologies around the anthropocene and the detritus of modern life (see Unsettling section) as well as the projected archiving and study of the remains of nuclear installation and materials. In 2016 there was a major investigative dig in preparation for a future replacement nuclear power station which turned up a neolithic henge, a Roman site, an iron age village, a medieval cemetery stimulating reflection on the 20th century. An opportunity arose to present an installation of video work from an earlier dig (Vimeo) together with photographs and construction stone from the recent henge discovery.
